AIXTRON’s new manufacturing & engineering hub in Malaysia

We are building a new greenfield manufacturing and engineering hub in Batu Kawan, Penang. The site will provide a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment for assembly & test of our high-end systems and will contribute to engineering the next generation of products. Operations are planned to start in 2027 with a rapid ramp-up. Beyond technology, the new location is designed as a modern workplace with state-of-the art office and amenities  — built to foster collaboration and a strong focus on people wellbeing.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for purpose-driven builders: hands-on professionals with entrepreneurial spirit who enjoy setting up structures, improving processes and taking ownership in a fast-moving environment. As pioneers of our Malaysia site, you will help to shape not only your function, but also how we work together locally — while being connected to a global team of around 1,000 employees from ~60 nationalities across Asia, Europe and the US. We offer competitive benefits, outstanding technical expertise, development opportunities and training.

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on, execution-focused (Senior) Industrial Engineer to take ownership of the development, implementation, and continuous optimization of our production processes, including assembly, commissioning, and qualification. In addition, you will assess and optimize our depth of value creation as an integral part of Industrial Engineering.

You will ensure that factory processes are robust, scalable, cost-efficient, and fully aligned with quality, safety, and delivery targets by designing, shaping, and implementing production infrastructure, hardware, and fab utilities.

Working at the interface between Engineering, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain, you will translate product requirements into reliable and efficient manufacturing processes. You will optimize the production system for operational excellence on the shop floor through structured, data-driven improvements as well as pragmatic lean methods and a strong leadership culture.

Finally, you will establish the framework within which the production network can operate at its best.

 Responsibilities

  • Lead industrialization and continuous improvement initiatives for assembly and manufacturing processes — from initial concept and process design through ramp-up to stable serial production.
  • Design, implement, and optimize robust serial production processes, including long term tactical capacity planning, workforce qualification concepts, tooling and fixture development, and in-process quality controls.
  • Define and structure detailed assembly planning, including work plans, operation sequences, assembly logic, task breakdown, standard times, and creation of clear, production-ready work instructions.
  • Develop and implement scalable factory layouts and material flow concepts, covering space planning, workstation design, kitting and supermarket systems, and long-term growth scenarios, in close collaboration with Production, Logistics, and EHS.
  • Drive the specification, selection, and commissioning of production equipment, including definition, tendering, supplier alignment, FAT/SAT acceptance, process capability validation, and structured handover to Operations; support ramp-up troubleshooting as required.
  • Lead shopfloor performance optimization using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, establishing KPI-driven management systems focused on quality, throughput, cycle time, delivery performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Production, and global stakeholders, operating in a hands-on, structured, data-driven, and execution-focused manner to ensure sustainable operational excellence.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering or similar.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in industrial engineering within high-tech or capital equipment manufacturing, with hands-on exposure to layout planning, process design, complex assembly environments, equipment integration, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience supporting or leading greenfield factory ramp-ups, including capacity planning, production system design, and stabilization to serial production.
  • Strong Lean Manufacturing expertise, with practical application of Lean tools (VSM, 5S, SMED, line balancing, Kaizen); Six Sigma Green Belt preferred, Black Belt is a plus.
  • Solid experience in industrialization documentation and process control methodologies, including work instructions, process flows, control plans, PFMEA, and standardized production documentation.
  • Deep understanding of ergonomics, EHS standards, and quality management systems in manufacturing environments (e.g., ISO 9001), ideally within ESD-controlled or clean manufacturing areas.
  • Advanced CAD and planning software proficiency for detailed factory layout design, workstation development, material flow modeling, and equipment integration planning.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a multicultural, international manufacturing environment; fluent English required.

Working Conditions & Environment

  • Role based at AIXTRON Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
  • You will be based at our Batu Kawan site
  • Occasional travel, to Headquarters in Germany or other regional sites.
